Image amodal completion: A survey
نویسندگان
چکیده
Existing computer vision systems can compete with humans in understanding the visible parts of objects, but still fall far short when it comes to depicting invisible partially occluded objects. Image amodal completion aims equip computers human-like functions understand an intact object despite being occluded. The main purpose this survey is provide intuitive research hotspots, key technologies and future trends field image completion. Firstly, we present a comprehensive review latest literature emerging field, exploring three tasks completion, including shape appearance order perception. Then examine popular datasets related along their common data collection methods evaluation metrics. Finally, discuss real-world applications directions for facilitating reader’s challenges existing upcoming trends.

On a variational theory of image amodal completion
We study a variational model for image amodal completion, i.e., the recovery of missing or damaged portions of a digital image by technics inspired by the well-known amodal completion process in human vision. Representing the image by a real-valued function and following an idea initially proposed in [32], our approach consists in finding a set of interpolating level lines which is optimal with...
متن کاملAmodal completion and localization
In a three-line vernier acuity task, a central line was localized between two aligned line segments. Accuracy did not improve when the segments formed a unified amodally completed percept. In a two-line vernier acuity task, a line was localized below a target line placed next to a physically segmented flank stimulus. Shifts in mean points of subjective equality suggested that amodally completed...
متن کاملAmodal completion in the absence of image tangent discontinuities.
It has been widely believed since Helmholtz that tangent discontinuities in image contours, such as T-junctions or L-junctions, will occur when one object occludes another. Here we describe a class of occlusion relationships where changes in 'border ownership' and amodal completion take place in the absence of tangent discontinuities in the image. We propose that even subtle curvature discontin...
متن کاملAmodal volume completion: 3D visual completion
This work considers the common problem of completing partially visible artifacts within a 3D scene. Human vision abilities to complete such artifacts are well studied within the realms of perceptual psychology. However, the psychological explanations for completion have received only limited application in the domain of 3D computer vision. Here, we examine prior work in this area of computer vi...
متن کاملComplete mergeability and amodal completion.
When image fragments are taken to correspond to the visible portions of a single occluded object, the object is said to 'amodally complete' behind the occluder. Kellman and Shipley (Kellman, P. J., & Shipley, T. F. (1991). A theory of visual interpolation in objective perception. Cognitive Psychology, 23, 144-221) argued that when the virtual contour extensions of such image fragments subtend a...
